What Data You See

Newport Water Division is in the process of replacing radio read meters with modern cellular meters system wide. The data you see in EyeOnWater depends on which meter type your property has:

Cellular meters transmit usage data to the Department several times per day. If your property has a cellular meter, EyeOnWater shows your usage updated daily, and leak alerts can detect continuous water flow within hours.

Radio read meters are read on a monthly cycle. If your property has a radio read meter, EyeOnWater shows your monthly read history. Leak alerts are based on monthly reads, which means a leak that develops mid month may not be detected until the next read.

The Department is actively converting all meters to cellular. Customers receive direct notice when their meter is going to be replaced. If you are unsure which meter type your property has, contact Utilities Billing at 401-845-5604.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is EyeOnWater free?

Yes. EyeOnWater is provided at no charge to Newport Water customers as part of the Department’s customer service investment.

Does EyeOnWater replace my regular bill?

No. You will continue to receive your regular monthly bill through your existing billing method (paper or paperless). EyeOnWater is a separate tool for viewing usage data and managing alerts. To pay your bill, continue to use the online billing portal, mail, or in person payment.

Will my usage data be private?

Your account is password protected. Only you and anyone you authorize can view the data for your service address. Newport Water Division and Badger Meter (the EyeOnWater platform provider) handle your data in accordance with their published privacy policies.

I rent my home. Can I still enroll?

EyeOnWater is tied to the utility account, which is generally in the property owner’s name. If you rent and are responsible for water charges, ask your property owner to add your email to the account or to share access. Contact Utilities Billing at 401-845-5604 if you need help.

What if I get a leak alert?

EyeOnWater alerts indicate continuous water flow has been detected at your meter. This usually means a fixture is running (toilet flapper, dripping faucet, irrigation system, swimming pool fill) or there is a leak somewhere on your property. Walk through your property and check fixtures. If the alert continues after you have checked your fixtures, you may have a leak in your service line, which is your responsibility as the property owner. Contact a plumber. If you suspect a leak in the public main, call the Department at 401-845-5600.

I just had my meter replaced. When can I enroll?

It may take up to three weeks after meter replacement for your EyeOnWater account to be ready. If you try to enroll and the system does not recognize your account, wait a few days and try again. If you still cannot enroll after three weeks, contact Utilities Billing at 401-845-5604.

Can I get help enrolling?

Yes. Call Utilities Billing at 401-845-5604 Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Billing staff can walk you through enrollment over the phone.
